Philippians 2:3-4
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Our Team
The Hodges
We are Hodge and Tiffany. Married in 2010 and fortunate enough to experience many adventures along the way. We are dada and mama to Zeke, Zoey, Ziya, and Zans.
At different points in our lives, we both felt called by God to live and work overseas in ministry settings, and in His providence, He used our individual passions to bring us together. While Hodge was pastoring a church in Tennessee and finishing his masters in seminary, we started to pursue a job with the IMB. A couple of years after that, we found ourselves moving to Portugal, a country that is less than 2% protestant. Our city is roughly 100,000 people, and at the time, it had no protestant churches. Since 2013, we have seen the Holy Spirit move and work in profound ways. With an ever-increasing desire and passion to share the truth and hope of Jesus with those around us, we are honored and thrilled to be doing so among the Portuguese people.
In 2016, we left the IMB and the Lord led us to start our fundraising journey. That same year, we were able to plant the first protestant church in our city, which meets once a week in our home. We truly enjoy the simple yet enriching life that we have come to know in Portugal. The people are absolutely some of the kindest that we have met, and the cultural differences have grown on us as we smile and simply state, “That’s just the Portuguese way”.
We are incredibly thankful for the love and support that we receive from so many back in the States so that we can live and minister among the Portuguese, and we are overwhelmed and full of gratitude because of the friendships that the Lord has blessed us with in Portugal, a place that has truly become home to us. Please consider supporting us as we reach the Portuguese with the Gospel!
The Khans
Aloha! We are Arbab and Leesa. In October of 2021 we moved to Vila do Conde from Honolulu, HI. We spent three months in Portugal in the winter of 2018, and after two years back in Hawaii, the Lord called us back! During the pandemic in 2020, we realized there was no better time to follow God’s lead to Portugal. While so many were paralyzed by fear, we felt convicted to lean into and share the hope of the gospel.
When we came our first time around, we were newly married and without any children. Now we have two beautiful little ones, Enzo and Mika. We welcomed Mika five months after arriving. Adjusting to our growing family as well as embracing a new culture and language has grown us in many ways. It’s not been easy by any means, but God has continuously guided and provided for us. The Hodge’s and others in our church community have been helpful and supportive as we continue to learn our identity in ministry here.
Portugal is a very easy-going and relational culture. People love to sit over a cup of coffee and “talk story” as we say in Hawaiʻi. There is still much for us to learn about living here, but our Portuguese community has grown and we are so excited for the relationships we have so far. We are so grateful for the partnership and support we have received from so many.
